I saw on the Illinois Rivals site that this suburban Chicago QB has an offer from Indiana State. He had some nice things to say about the program in the article. It's nice to see that we are getting some early offers out now; it should help in the long run.

Agree 100% on the early offers. It never hurts to send them out to elite prospects and hope that one of your coaches connects with them. The longer the kids hold out on making a decision, other schools can fill up and you could end up stealing some good kids.

Kid is good...I think a pro style qb is what Trent favors over the athlete type looking at his recruits of the past...would be nice to grab this kid and see if he develops into another ronnie?

A few of these Illinois kids are obviously in Coach Sabock's recruiting area. These are schools that Northern Illinois routinely recruits.

Tonyan committed to the Sycamores! Nice catch--he's a kid that will continue to grow and develop, and comes from a very well-coached program. Welcome to the Sycamores Robert!

Looks like he's got all the right tools - nice arm, good accuracy, sees the field well, can run when necessary. Heck, he can even jump over defenders!
Seems like a good pick up. Welcome Robert!!!

I heard from some players this kid looks very impressive. He was at the homecoming game this weekend. Good thing we got him before a BCS school got in on him!

Not to use a baseball quote but he is clearly a 5-tool qb, doesn't kill you with one weapon but with every one he has (A la Aaron Rodgers)...I think he fits our offense really well, two years from now (don't quote me on this) he may be the starter, we will see.

“It was a pretty hard decision,” Tonyan said. “I sat down with my mom and dad. They wanted to help me, but not make the decision for me. Coach Miles has really turned that program around. They’re in the Top 25, they made the playoffs and he’s really active in the community. I respect that and think he’s a coach I’d like to spend the next four years with.”
Well, we didn't exactly make the playoffs (yet), but he's right about turning the program around.

Sounds like another great addition. I was anxious to see us sign a QB for the future.

This qb looks like he is athletic, and has potential to lead the Sycamores, I bet he redshirts, and he needs to hit the weight room at only 180 lbs. I like his prospects though.

Hello Sycamore Pride, This is Tammy Tonyan, Robert's mom. I just want to thank everyone for a great weekend. We have always been impressed with the coaching staff at ISU, but now we can add the players and the families to that list. What an amazing group and we're looking so forward to being part of this family. Thanks again for everything!!

We may be known for basketball and Larry Bird, but this school is craving for football supremacy. Tammy, we look forward to seeing your son play for the Trees. Nice to have him (and his family) on board. Welcome to "our" family. We can't wait to see your son on the field~

In football, Tonyan threw for 4,962 yards with 39 touchdowns and 16 interceptions the past two seasons combined. His 34-inch vertical leap and play around the basket, including occasional dunks, have drawn raves, too.
“He had 23 points and a really good dunk at Hampshire, and one of their coaches said he should walk on for basketball at Indiana State,” Paddock said.

Fine by me. Just hope he's not able to join the basketball team until late December, preferrably mid-January.
