Jackie Carmichael from Illinois State has earned StatSheet's Missouri Valley Player of the Week award for March 5th. StatSheet's Missouri Valley Freshman of the Week goes to Nic Moore from Illinois State. And last but not least, Bryant Allen from Illinois State has won StatSheet's Missouri Valley 6th Man of the Week.
Carmichael was the best in the Missouri Valley in blocked shots (3.0 per game). He also registered huge numbers in shooting (50%), scoring (15 pts per game), and rebounding (11.7 per game). The Illinois State junior played well in wins against Northern Iowa and 15th ranked Wichita State and a loss to Creighton.
Carmichael led the Redbirds in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and 15 rebounds in a 54-42 win over Northern Iowa. That was followed by 12 points and 11 rebounds in a narrow 65-64 victory over Wichita State. Finally, Carmichael put up 17 points and 9 rebounds, closing out the week with an 83-79 loss to Creighton.
This is the first time this season that Jackie Carmichael has been selected StatSheet Missouri Valley Player of the Week. However, he has received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is junior Tyler Brown from Illinois State. Honorable mention goes to Doug McDermott, a sophomore from Creighton. The highest ranking player from Indiana State was Jake Odum who finished 11th.
StatSheet Missouri Valley Freshman of the Week: Illinois State's Nic Moore
Nic Moore averaged 35 minutes of playing time while starting all 3 games for Illinois State. His averages in scoring (13.33 pts per game), three pointers (1.33 per game), and free throws (4.67 per game) were the best among all Missouri Valley freshmen. In the win over Northern Iowa, Moore contributed 8 points and 6 rebounds. Then in the win over Wichita State, he added 12 points and 3 assists.
