I think as soon as the season is over.(probably 10 minutes after the final pitch of the season judging by the lack of "upkeep" done on the existing field this year!:bigsmile:)

the 1986 college world series team at the new stadium. also, to honor all those former players who went on to play professional baseball who played for warn.

This will be a great addition to the campus; have also read/heard that this is part of a great plan to land a Frontier League franchise (www.frontierleague.com) in the Haute.

Regards of the franchise; a great addition. Now if State could/would raise the $$ for an on-campus football stadium and renovate Hulman Center.

Who is constructing this facility?

What a class act! I wonder if they will also put in a new parking area as well? To have 2500 seats, you've got to have places for nearly a thousand cars!

Is the city still trying to get a Frontier franchise? It use to be the talk of the summer a few years ago, now has fallen off lately.

But anyway, it looks like a great stadium. Can't wait to see it in use!!

The Frontier League may have 'out-grown' the Haute but w/ the right marketing they could be viable;
market it as a Wabash Valley team, not T-H team. You'd have a steady supply of potential players w/ State AND this facility would be a great place to play.

With State's Sports Training and Sports Management programs; you have another supply of young (cheap) talent to work as interns -- hmmm, wonder if there anything in the FL or ISU Foundation by-laws against a non-profit entity owning a franchise??

THat may have something to do with moving soccer out of there to Memorial. Just a guess though.

Amen to that Tom. On that note, do you know what ever happened to, or where are they now to guys like Jeff Buell, Jamie Allison, Darren Peters, David Larson, Joe Golembiewski, and Kurt Olson. I was a freshman in the fall of 1986, and most of these guys were on my floor at Cromwell, and we hung out alot. Joe and I kept in touch for a bit, as we were both from Wisconsin.

I can answer about Jeff Buell....He still lives in the area...Brazil. I got to play some sports with him a few years back and he can still hit the cover off of the ball!!!

I am a huge fan of jersey numbers being retired.

Here are some suggestions....... Just throwing a few names out there.....

Zane Smith
Tommy John
Casey Whitten
Wally Johnson
Clint Barmes

I think that when an opposing team looks at the fence and sees the names of Tommy John and Clint Barmes, there is a bit of an intimidation factor, if only for a few seconds.

Can we please get a sign to honor the World Series team that is large enough so that people other than RF Nick Ciolli can see it?

How will Sycamore Stadium compare to other college facilities in Indiana? The drawings make it look pretty nice. Just wondering if this will be one of the best facilities in the state.

Unfortunately, we'd have to strike Tommy John's name off the retired jersey list;
while he's an alumnus, (Class of '64) -- I've found no record of Tommy playing baseball for the Trees; shame, be great to hang his jersey at the new field.

Also too bad Don "Donnie Baseball" Mattingly was drafted by the Yankees; he was going to sign w/ the Sycamores if he didn't get drafted. Another great jersey to hang BUT Don's not even an Alumnus.

My votes (in no particular order):

Zane Smith
Brian Dorsett
Wally Johnson
Clint Barmes

while tommy john is a terre haute native and graduated from isu....and has been honored as an alumnus....he never played baseball at isu....he attended school during the off-season and worked out at isu to prepare for the season....he met his wife at isu...she was a secretary in the sports information office....

tommy was drafted out of high school by cleveland, i believe, and then was traded to the white sox..

but if they honored tommy, they would have to honor don mattingly too...since he signed a scholarship to play baseball at isu...but was drafted by the yankees and did not attend school....
