Here's hoping that the midwest weather improves this coming weekend. Not only does ISU need an opportunity to improve their conference record, but I'm leaving Oregon (by car) tomorrow morning with a friend to head east with a stop in Iowa to catch Sunday's game. I'm really hoping that the weather outlook improves to make riding in a Jeep Wrangler for four days worth it!
See you in Iowa, SkinnyLu!

I'm in Davenport, two hours southeast of Waterloo. The weekend forecast is looking better than it did the other day.

Safe Travels Beav and Friend. Cordell's family will be in Iowa to cheer on the Trees. Bent, will you be coming to any of the games this weekend?

I'm afraid not, but I'm wishing them the best of luck.

SkinnyLu updated me yesterday as we were driving through Nevada that it looks like Sunday's game has been moved to a Saturday DH. The Sycamore site hasn't been updated to say that yet, but we're cramming our drive days together to make it to Iowa in time for those. Weather.com is showing a high of 45 with a 40% chance of showers...

Nice to see a sweep, but 2 of 3 would be great. Based on the forecast, I'm glad they are making provisions to have a DH Saturday. They appear to have one tough-as-nails starter (2.30 in 43 innings), but we have to go in with the attitude that he just puts his pants on one leg at a time and methodically peck away.

ISU wins game one 9-3, so at least they won't get swept. Now the big question is will they get one or even two more games in with the bad weather that's heading for Waterloo??
Now 2-4 in MVC play.

I just checked the Waterloo forecast, and it's not looking good. Considering we spent today outrunning the storm all the way through Nebraska and am now sitting in a Des Moines hotel room, I'll be disappointed if the storm rolls in as forecasted, but that's the way it works.
Great win tonight, and here's crossing our fingers for tomorrow.

you're right, my bad!
Raining in Waterloo right now, but it looks like there might be a break in the rain coming towards the 'Loo, hope they can get at least one game in.
I believe we are actually 2-3 in MVC play.

Not about the Sycamores but Illinois State over Wichita State 5-4 last nite in Wichita. From the Redbird message board:
"First win over the Shockers in 14 years !"
"Birds snap a 25 game road losing streak in Wichita."

that is one INCREDIBLY long losing streak, wow!
ILS picked last in the MVC preseason poll is sure looking good right now.
Meanwhile, ISU up 3-2 on UNI in game 2 right now, 3rd inning, trying to beat the rain/snow

ISU wins game 3 also by a 5-1 score, it appeared the pitching was MUCH better for this series.
now 4-3 in MVC play. good series for Baseball! they were lucky to get those 3 games in.

It's a sweep! Not the best team...but it was an opportunity to put all of the pieces together and to build confidence. Let's hope the momentum and confidence carries over to the coming week. Great job guys...keeping the run production of the opponent down for the last four games! If we continue to put the pieces together even tighter...we may see a very competitive team.

I will say that after watching Games 2 and 3, the pitching WAS much improved over previous games. While Rodriguez had some rough moments in Game 3, he managed to nearly go the distance for a complete game. It was tough to see him come out after 8.1 innings of work (and he was disappointed as well), but it was time. Petricka did a great job as well as a starter, which really allowing Meggs to not have to depend on a lengthy use of the bullpen to get through the games.
While I was personally disappointed that I didn't get to see Cordell pitch after driving out to Iowa, I was really happy to see ISU get the sweep. It's sorely needed!

I watched the Missouri/Oklahoma game on TV Saturday and Missouri was, for the 9th time this season, doing a Johnny Whole Staff approach to win. They were 7-1 using this approach going into yesterday's loss. I observed that Missouri is struggling on the mound and at the plate this season and the quality of our pitching and hitting could be a pretty good match come next week. Depends on whether they use the first string or they mix in the guys who don't get to see action on the weekends...which I expect they will. In short, I agree with Beav89 that our pitching is starting to gell...still a little soupy...but moving in the right direction!

Northern Iowa had wreaked havoc on the Big 10. They beat Minnesota twice and had that infamous 28-17 win over Indiana. At least the game with IU was said to be a baseball and not a football game?
