they want me to start an isu baseball newsletter and alumni group like i have with football....

The boyz are following Emeril's lead and "kicking it up a notch!"
I thought Cordell was gonna get into a jam w/ control problems last night...falling behind in the count/frosh jitters, etc...but he sucked it up and spit it out! Believe it or not, last night he grew a few inches and at the RIGHT time! Meggs really knows when to turn on the burner. Also gotta compliment Broncho for calming him down. You hear mostly about Broncho's bat, but I guarantee that ISU's pitching improvement can also be tied to Broncho's development behind the plate!

I've seen a definite improvement in the relief pitching over the past few weeks. We keep mentioning Greene...and he deserves mention. But Harlan, Shelton (0.71 ERA in MVC), Bayes and Mann have been stalwarts during the past four series in set-up and closing duties. We've been blessed that the starters have gone deep...but credit needs to be given to the less often mentioned relievers! I'm also glad to see Manus healthy, that will pay off big in the MVC Tourney and for long-relief duties the balance of this weekend and next.

Long ago, I was concerned with our team ERA. If you've checked it lately, you'll see a big improvement as the Sycamores entered conference play. Our team ERA during conference play is just 4.29! Now that is pitching!

Almost 1/2 of LAST year...
Trees are down 2-0, bottom of the 4th. Time to get the BIG bats heated up..."murders row" have been shooting blanks so far.
All right...Trees playing small ball in the 5th w/ poor UE "D"...2-2...it's a new game! I guess I should note that UE had been playing SUPER "D" until now.
Sycs rallying again in the 6th - 1st & 2B w/ 1 out. Aces P change in an attempt to cap the rally.
Broncho slams a 3-run double off the wall...artillery is now firing! Jett drives in Broncho on a single... 6-2. Yo Dawgie...

You know, I chatted with Cordell briefly last night and he mentioned he was having some location issues. Coming in to close on a Friday night for the first time as a freshman--lots of jitters, I'm sure. I'm just glad he was able to focus and pull himself out of full counts a couple of times. And I agree about Bronco's contribution--his communication and leadership will be sorely missed next year.

I think the reason you see a lot of mention of Cordell on the board is that his mother and I (aunt) are long distance and other board members try to keep us filled in on how he does in the games, since we can't be there in person (which we totally appreciate, by the way). I totally agree with you regarding many of the other pitchers in the bullpen. Shelton has done an outstanding job settling in to the closer role, especially since he was a starter in the past. Harlan & Bayes (when he's had the chance to pitch) have done very well, and Mann has been great when we really need a lefty. My hats are off to all of them!

A little rough for Harlan in the 9th, but he got the job done along with Manus (who could still pitch on Tuesday) and Petricka. Bring the brooms for tomorrow. Evansville will have pitching problems with a weaker starter and a tired bullpen. ISU has developed a much stronger pitching staff as the season has progressed and that combined with explosive offense could take them all the way! Just have to keep all cylinders firing at once. Great job Sycamores!

best case scenario for ISU Sunday is to have ISU win and then have Creighton win too, that gives ISU a 2 game lead over MSU and a half-game lead over Creighton, but CU has to play at WSU next weekend and I can't see CU winning that series? (in a sweep anyway)

ISUCC's logic is reasonable, but I'm not sure that I trust a 2 game lead over MSU given our upcoming head-on, 3-game matchup in Springfield Thurs-Sat. These games are gonna be PUMPED, w/ the MVC title at stake, MSU & ISU both playing at the TOP of their game, and the 7:30 PM PRIME TIME nature of each game. I'd be expecting a near or FULL HOUSE for each game.
Anyone know if if an organized ISU contingent is making the 6 hr trip to Springfield? It'd be nice to have some supportive fire in the stands.

I don't know about SkinnyLu in MN, but I was listening on WISU out here in Oregon while I was taking care of some chores. That was a killer game! I ended upon a phone call during the 8th inning and had to bite my tongue during Bronco's homer. Shelton struggled a bit there in the top of the inning, but with such a huge lead like that and hot bats--wasn't too worried about sealing up the game.
Nice job by Rodriguez today, as well. Eleven SO's? If that's not a career high for him, it's got to be close. Sweet stuff.

It's up to us to determine our fate next week as Creighton has to sweep Wichita State and MSU has to take two from ISU (that won't happen) to get to the top. So, it'll be a dogfight. with all Sunday games complete here's where we stand. First place can go to ISU, MSU, or CU (unlikely though). 6th place is up for grabs between ILS, SIU, and Evansville. Evansville must sweep SIU to get the 6 seed though, a loss by Evansville gives SIU the 6 seed.
in MVC pod play, the 1 seed plays the 4 and 5 seed. 2, 3, and 6 are in the same pod. Even though WSU is down, it'd still be tough to play them at home in the tourney
