well, so much for a 6-2 lead, now 9-6 X leads after the 3 run home run given up by Mann.

You know, I understand the strategy decision behind the pitching choices tonight, but man, you can really tell that Gurbach and Dougherty haven't had much game time lately. Not one of Mann's best outings either.

true, the pitchers who have come in after the starter left have struggled, but like the Illinois game, ya can't count ISU out just yet, no lead is safe for X, or for ISU for that matter! ISU needs about 10-15 more insurance runs tonight.

9-6 X in the bottom of the 8th, need a rally here. Shoemaker with 4 walks today too, Hmmmm?, and now a single, so one hit. that'll help his on base percentage.

That closer was nasty! He came in with 10 saves and 36 strikeouts in just 21 innings! What we saw tonight was not the formula we've been using for winning games...both hitting and pitching wise. Overall, we should have hit their pitching a lot harder than we did! I have to say that the future years may be in the hands of people like Greene and Bayes. With all three regular starters returning...along with Harlan, Mann, Greene and Bayes we might have an even better pitching staff next year. Its all about how those starters and relievers grow in their profession over the next 9 months. Meanwhile, its a game to forget right now. Time to mentally prepare for MSU who has about the same RPI ranking as Xavier.

Okay, I just got off the telephone with Cordell and he said the closer for Xavier had the wickedest (is that a word?) slider he had ever seen!!! He was at home (Harlan's couch) rethinking the night.

This was just a hiccup...more of a distraction than anything, and a good opportunity for some of ISU's "lesser knowns" to get some playing time. Now to focus on the "Just ISU" issues out in Springfield and Wichita.
Xavier was a good wakeup call after the couple day, Collegiate Baseball ego massage. Now we head for some REAL Division I hardball...the MVC Championship.

I have an uncle who lives 45 minutes from Missouri State campus and he says the weather is HORRIBLE right now and not expected to stop raining throughout the entire weekend. It would totally stink if we don't get in our series with Mizzou!!
Someone make a call to mother nature!

You're right, Skinny Lu...the front is expected to flow E. and we're getting the same projections in the Louisville area. If you're headed to Springfield, take your rain gear (and maybe a half-pint or two!).
I see where ISU's JOE RODRIGUEZ was voted MVC Pitcher of the Week last week...congratulations! We'll need that type of effort from our pitching staff Thurs-Sat. Mizzou State's counter to ISU's "Shoe,"
Brayden Drake, won kudo's for the MVC Player of the Week. ISU "Murderer's Row" will hopefully roll into Springfield with full ammunition and not hesitate to pull the trigger during this 3-game series.

What happens if the series is postponed due to rain? Do you get to make up those games before the tournament starts?
Looking at weather.com (which like most weather sites isn't always reliable) Springfield is due for AM showers Friday, scattered thunder storms Saturday and sunny on Sunday. Which days are the games being played?

Here's the scoop from KY3 television, which is Springfield's leading weather outlet. They say that there will be strong to severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and tonight bringing 1 to 3 inches of rain, high winds and hail. But Thursday through Saturday thunderstorms are possible...a more scattered variety. We'll just have to take things day by day. Sunday is looking thunderstorm free...so games could be played that day before heading to Wichita.
