View Full Version : the official ISU at MSU "let's win an MVC baseball championship" thread

ok folks, like someone posted in one of the other threads, it all starts tomorrow night at 7:30pm (EST). How important is this 1st game? Well a game 1 win gives ISU a 2 game lead over MSU and puts ALL the pressure on them to have to win 2 straight against the best offense in the league.
Does anyone know if the video link on gosycamores.com will be free or do we have to subscribe to it???

Had a long talk with Cordell last night. I over nighted our video camera on Monday so he can take it with the team for the Missouri Series as well as Witchita.
At the end of journey I will get a copy of the "viewable" footage and will put together a video montage to celebrate such an awesome season. When its done (some time in August) i will post a note seeing who might want a copy.
Now lets kick some Missouri State butt! :sycamores::sycamores:

We at Indiana State don't hate Hoosiers. We are Hoosiers! We just really, really enjoy beating Indiana University.
Should be an exciting series at MSU to say the least.

Yes, I need some Advil. Somewhere along the way, the garbled feedback on the internet audio feed got fixed and I didn't even notice when it happened. Now I have to deal with the hubby yelling and screaming because the Red Wings won Game 7 over the Ducks 4-3. At least he's happy. :(

well, 2 losses in a row now, gonna have to end the regular season with 2 wins in a row, not a good start to this series by any means. That 5 run 1st inning was the difference.
At least CU has been eliminated for all practical purposes.

Yes, Creighton's loss was the bright spot for the evening. I'm sure Coach will have some appropriate motivating-type words for the team after this outing.

In other MVC action, UNI beat Bradley and SIU locked up a spot in the MVC tournament with a 5-2 win over Evansville. E-Ville has been eliminated from MVC post season play.
It's a final at WSU, WSU wins over CU 4-1, the MVC champ comes from the ISU series.
Evansville, UNI, and Bradley are the 3 teams who won't be playing after this weekend.

He better, it could all come down to Friday's game with a better shot of rain on Saturday, tomorrow only shows a 30% chance of rain, so I'd think they'd get the game in.

I purchased the televised broadcast (through the Bears site) which is very good with three or four cameras. They meld the video with the local radio station audio. The announcer was very good and informative. The league commissioner was on the broadcast for a couple of innings and they talked about the awards dinner Tuesday night in Wichita where the player of the year, coach of the year, pitcher of the year...etc will be handed out. The ballots are due by Saturday night.

Okay, we purchased the video feed for the weekend and only made it through the first inning watching. My husband was grumping at the computer and sighing, I was starting to get sick to my stomach and I chickened out. Went in to the bedroom and did work instead. Had the game on my cell phone watching the game tracker thinking it would be easier emotionally. Needless to say I have a raging headache now and obviously should have drank more during the night.
No call from Cordell after the game....very uncharacteristic of him. I sent him the following message "Hey kid, what a bummer loss tonight. I'm sorry. Get a good nights rest and then pump up the team tomorrow to take two in a row! Love, Mom"
Cordell's response.... "Thanks mom. Love u 2. And will do and night."
I hope the coach can kick them in the butt and pump them up. They will need to be at their best for tomorrows game with MSU's super star pitcher on the mound.
I believe they can do it, but does the team?

So much riding on the remaining two games...the Shoe v. Drake POY battle is another story. Drake was clearly winner of Round 1.
The 5'10" Baumann is the Bears SO ace w/ 87. He's also a control freak, with only 1 BB every 3 innings.
If I'm Meggs, I'm gonna encourage time-delay tactics while in the batters box and "small ball" to keep 'em off balance.
We came back against the Shockers and can do the same in Springfield, by playing focused "Just ISU" baseball. The opening game saw a few ISU neurons that were estranged by the #26Collegiate Baseball news. Back to reality now.
SkinnyLu - you need to keep that 1/2 pint under the sofa;
Beav - Do you & your hubby wear game helmuts & keep the sticks locked in the gun case while listening?
Also, do ya think Meggs will give the Sycamores the "frozen dinner" treatment after the Game 1 start?

The old axiom applies: Do more of what you did right and less of what you did wrong! I agree that this is a new day and if Petricka is on his game, we'll be fine. Our offensive attack was right there, although it really could have been better last night. Allow fewer runs and explode with the offense. Meade saw his ERA climb yesterday against the Sycamores. Unfortunately, so did Valdez!

How can I get updates on my phone?
HoopMaster -- what type of phone do you have? SkinnyLu has a BlackBerry Curve and she's told me that she can get the LiveStats feed using the Opera Mini browser (I have that as well, but haven't validated it yet). I know when I'm desperate, I use the standard browser to view Today's Scores on www.d1baseball.com.
I'm not aware of any text update service that gives team-specific NCAA baseball scores out there.
Beav89
05-15-2009, 11:17 AM
Well, if it makes SkinnyLu feel any better, the text message reply I had last night was much more positive, so I'm not sweating this one. I've got to believe that they've all had a chance to lick their wounds and move forward.
If the Sycamores are going to have any realistic shot at winning the conference, winning the tournament, winning at Regionals, etc., they are going to need to be mentally tough enough to overcome yesterday's performance and move on. The schedule is no longer littered with the Bradley's of the world to get your confidence boost against. This is the time when the Sycamore MEN decide that they are going to take care of business the way they're capable of doing so and not let history and stats and talk get into their heads. Because if they do, I think it's over now.
Baumann was very effective against my Beavs back in March (6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 W, 7 SO, 20 AB, 22 BF, 81 NP), but the relief that day wasn't nearly as good (ironically, it was Meade). Oregon State lost two of those games by 1 and 2 runs, respectively. Also, OSU's offensive isn't nearly as effective as ISU's, so they have a fighting chance to come out on the top of this series. I think there's three keys to the game for the offense today:
1. Get Baumann off the mound ASAP and get to that weaker MSU bullpen.
2. Get enough hits to give the MSU defense a chance to show why they still lead the conference in errors. The Bear fielding percentage is right there with Bradley and UNI this season, but the Sycs can't take advantage of that if they're not getting the ball into play.
3. Small ball strategy!
I'll be even less concerned if Petricka is in the zone.
Bank Shot - It truly may get ugly in this house starting on Sunday. Ammo, sticks, you name it, under lock and key. I've waited 7 years to get a shot at this again! And I have no doubt that Coach Meggs doled out something after Game 1 last night...
