Those three guys, Phegley, Ciolli, and Shoemaker should have the time of their life playing minor league ball together. that would be some story if all of them made it to the big leagues together. The sale of White Sox apparel is sure to rise in this area. Best of Luck to the three of them.

Too bad all of the ChiSox affliates are far from The Haute
Would think they'd at least have a Class A team in the Midwest League

Ciolli (10th Rd Pick) should finish his final year @ ISU...no advantage whatsoever to sacrifice his final year @ ISU, with the hope of moving UP the draft ladder in '10, while getting his degree.
Louisville's 3B Chris Dominguez was also a 10th Rd selection in last year's draft...came back to L-ville and went in the 3rd Rd THIS year. It'$ worth the wait...

Ciolli should finish his final year @ ISU...no advantage whatsoever to sacrifice another year with the hope of moving UP the draft ladder in '10 (where was he drafted - 600's?), while getting his degree.

I think Cioli will decide to return to ISU instead of taking the Minor League offer. Recently I read an interview with Cioli where we indicated that he thought he had gone as far as he could in baseball and was really interested in focusing on his bachelors degree and going on to law school.
The worst blow would be if he decided to finish school but not play ball next season. I think its a low possibility but if Cioli is not interested in playing MiLB then he may decide all of the time and commitment would be better spent on his school work. Hum...

Good point however if that dream is there as is usually the case with most players of playing MLB is still there I would recommend he continue that dream . You never know when you r cleat may catch in the grass and blow your dreams the hard way without ever getting the chance to play. Dont get me wrong I hope he stays for selfish reasons but I think its too much of a gamble to to MAYBE move up a couple rounds .

Totally agree Daveinth! Its easy to say you aren't interested until they call. And now the wait until the Aug 15th signing deadline.
I wonder if Coach Meggs is holding his breath. :imslow:

Not familiar w/ the story...fill me in. What did he do, forgo the draft, get hurt & flunk out of school?
By the way...do you recall the Otter Creek Red Caps, NTH's ONLY LL squad pre-NLL? I grew up a block away from the North LL - the neighborhood gang played ball inside the OC Horseshoe Club field BEFORE the 1st field was laid out in '61.

I can tell you with 99.9 % certainty that this is not going to happen. Ciolli will play for the White Sox(minor league) this year. The only reason I did not make it 100% is if they low ball him on money. However, 10th round picks get pretty good signing bonuses. I'm pretty sure that most contracts state that the team will pay for the remainder of college for these guys. There is just no way he is going to pass up an opportunity to possibly play with two of his good friends, in the minor leagues, with a chance to make the majors.

Matt had the world by the balls. All state Pitcher out of Terre Haute South . Drafted ( cant remember the round ) chose to go to Tennesee pitch in the CWS , transferred to ISU had mediocre career , Still drafted but drafted much lower than originally .not sure if he ever got his degree Now sitting in Vigo county jail awaiting trial on distribution charges . My point is had he followed his dreams he may be a free man . Not saying its the case but i think the drop had alot to do with his overall lifestyle.
I am very familar with NTH Litttle League and the tradition they have . I assume you are familar with the Terre Haute Americans from the 60's the only teams from Terre Haute to ever play in the Little League world seris . Nth Has had some very good teams and i think that the team that Phegley was on was one out away from playing for the rights to go to the Little League world seris . Ciolli may have been a 11 year old then as well. If my memory serves me right

I recall the TH Americans in '61. Howard Williams & Mike Turner would ultimately play BOTH basketball & baseball @ ISU. Donnie Sandberg & Chucky Merriweather I think were Howard Sharpe's boyz over near 1st Ave. & 13th St. I didn't live in TH in '68...played ball @ Castle HS in Newburgh during that era.
Is Samuels related to GREG SAMUELS, the '63 IHSAA Trester Award Winner from TH Garfield?
I recall Sandberg, Merriweather, Howard Cheeseman, Mike Sams, Duane Monk, Bill Blair, Terry McGee, et al playing TH Babe Ruth League just prior to my family's move near E-ville. My NTH neighbor, GENE ELROD, managed TH Breakfast Optimists and ultimately, the TH Nationals All-stars. CHUCK MILES was mgr. of the TH American All-stars.
