50 Rivest, Laurence C 6-1 Sr. 2L Mont Laurier, Quebec (Regina Assumpta Academy HS)

With all that height Coach has to work with, does he go with Thomas at post and try one of the 6'3" freshmen as the 4? I have heard that the Freshmen are making a very good showing in the early scrimmages the girls are having. Luna is back practicing lightly and Mattox is to be released for light practice very soon. Rivest is good to go, so things sure look good for the Sycamores. Just playing w/ the height thing....if we start Luna at pg, Buher @ 2, Mattox @ 3, Hodge/Rademacher @ 4 and Thomas @ 5 we go 5'5", 6'0", 6'0", 6'3", 6'4". Pretty good size for any women's team. Of course I don't believe that will be the lineup, but there are sure a lot of different looks Coach can give to any particular team we are playing. Either way, I think we will cause serious match up problems especially for Buher who played post and point guard (from one end of the scenario to the other) in high school.

My starting lineup for only the first game is:

Luna, Buher, Mattox, Cooley, Thomas. I seriously believe that at the final horn, 10-12 girls will share minutes equally.

I think that's a good guess, I sure hope Luna stays injury free for her senior year, last year was rough w/ all those injuries. This team has the potential to finally make the NCAA tourney. Heck Bradley did it last season, why not ISU this next season.

anybody redshirt in this group? I bet at least one does.

I am not sure if anyone will redshirt or not. I don't believe Taylor Whitley will as we need another point guard. Perhaps one of the 6'3" girls will, but does Coach Wiedie ever redshirt players? We currently have 3 seniors, 1 junior, 6 soph., and 4 fresh. We have 3 girls coming in next years class, so the reason would not be to even out the classes.

I look for Kelsey Luna to have a major season this year and be strongly considered for POY in the MVC. If Cooley makes the strides she made last year, she too will be an immediate contributor. It may take Buher a few games to knock the rust off after having to sit all last year, but once she gets going this team may be unstoppable. I hope that Deja Mattox doesn't have fear in her knee and let that change her game. She had such a great freshmen year prior to the injury, I think she would have been a strong candidate for Freshman of the Year. Shannon Thomas.....I would bet she will play with a lot more confidence this year in the post. At times last year she played apprehensive, which isn't surprising considering her youth. This year I think she will be ready to make a statement and use her height to her advantage. Sarah Paul may be the key to this team. Whether she starts or plays off the bench, I think Sarah is one of the most unselfish players on the team and she gained valuable experience at the end of last season. Hope she brings that confidence to her game this year as well. I know Megan Burton is working really hard in the summer and may surprise some people this year. Great girl!

I think Taylor Whitley and Andrea Rademacher will be in the mix early and I would not be surprised if either gets a starting spot before the season is very far along. Luna, Buher and Whitley may be our best offensive weapons. Rademacher may have to adjust to the stronger athletes at this level but she has some terrific instincts. I don't know enough about Moriah Hodge to comment but, at 6-2, I expect her to play quite a bit.

Very true SycamoreSage, and Whitley just might earn a starting spot right from the beginning. Depends on who Coach wants doing what. Luna definitely would be better served to play the shooting guard, but stranger things have happened....Buher could run the point in a three guard set. I think several of the girls will know all positions because most can play at 2-3 or even 4 spots. Either way, this team will run, run, run.

I wasn't sure if I should type his name, but it is on the Sycamore website, so I will. Her father's name is Richard and he owns a car dealership in Bedford. Very nice people who support Sycamore basketball to the fullest.

No big deal. While teaching/coaching/officiating in "Bedrock" back in the 80's, I once knew a few people...

The community is having a tough time financially, now that Visteon/Ford has shut down and the GM (foundry) bankruptcy just occurred.
