The U.S. is up 2-0 on Spain, which I'm told is the best team in the world. They have something like a 35 game win streak and the American team is like 1-7-1 in their last 9 games.

That was an amazing victory, but the US team wasn't 1-7-1 in their last nine games (maybe against European teams). They had been beating up on all of the Central American teams in the World Cup qualifier prior to this tournament. The US team is ranked no. 14 in the world, so they're no push overs. Big game Sunday against Brazil for the Confederation Cup final then on to the World Cup next year.
