BERLIN -- South Africa's track and field federation had been asked to conduct a gender test on an 800-meter runner amid concerns she does not meet the requirements to compete as a woman.

Caster Semenya, 18, is a favorite in Wednesday's 800 final at the world championships.

The world track and field federation requested the gender test about three weeks ago, after Semenya burst onto the scene by improving her personal bests in the 800 and 1,500 by huge margins.

LOL! How do you conduct a gender test? By looking at her/his tights in the picture she/he is not really packing to much heat to be a fella...

However after reading the rest of the article that sounds like a bit of a sticky situation... How would you like to break the news to someone who is setting world records. How would that go?

IAAF: Caster you are actually a Male not a Female and we are going to have to strip you...

Caster: Strip? I might be a dude but I aint no hooker...

IAAF: No no, we are going to have to strip you of your medals and records

Caster: Oh alright you can take those, I am just pissed that I have had to deal with menstrual cramps all these years when I am actually supposed to be a dude.

That's just one of the many ways I could see that playing out...

LMAO at you guys... I'm going to be interested to see if she had the gender change surgery. If that is the case, I'd imagine the legality issues will be raised if they try to DQ her. What do hermaphrodites compete in? No wait, don't answer that.

PRETORIA, South Africa -- Gender tests on running sensation Caster Semenya determined she has internal male sexual organs, Australian newspapers reported Friday, triggering new outrage from South Africa and her father, who called her critics "crazy" and "sick."

The International Association of Athletics Federations, which ordered the testing, refused to confirm or deny the reports in the Sydney Daily Telegraph and the Sydney Morning Herald that Semenya is a hermaphrodite with no ovaries and internal testes that produce large amounts of testosterone.

Tests show that controversial runner Caster Semenya is a woman ...and a man!

The 18-year-old South African champ has no womb or ovaries and her testosterone levels are more than three times higher than those of a normal female, according to reports.

The tests, ordered by The International Association of Athletics Federations after Semenya's 800-meter victory in the World Championships, determined she's a hermaphrodite - having both male and female organs.
