TERRE HAUTE ? The victim in late Wednesday?s shooting outside a Terre Haute motel died of two gunshots to the head fired at close range, the county coroner said.
Jessica Jones, 26, a mother of four children ages 2 to 6 and an employee of Drury Inn, was shot by her ex-husband, Major Jones, near the entrance to the motel as she tried to escape from him, police said.
Major Jones, 28, used a .40-caliber handgun in the killing, police said. He fled with the four children before police eventually shot and killed him near Monrovia as he held one of the children.
Jessica Jones suffered two shots fired at close range and was hit by other blasts that appeared to be more distant, said Vigo County Coroner Roland Kohr, adding that investigators had recovered seven bullets.
The inn is at 3040 South U.S. 41, just north of Interstate 70.
