men picked 2nd, women 6th, the men have a legitimate shot to win, the women can certainly place higher than 6th! The meet is Sat. at Bradley

well CC I can tell you something that you might find interesting on the womens side - Coach Gartland has decided to activate Erica Moore to the Cross Country roster for this meet. Interesting because she has not practiced with the team all year and she has never really raced anything longer than 800 meters in track. With that being said she is a fantastic athlete and she very well could help them move higer than 6th - I guess we will just have to see. But a bit of a gamble from my good friend and former coach John Gartland.
On the mens side - yeah the guys def. have a shot to win the meet! Be sure to check out my Pre Nats meet summary!

I saw that about Erica on the ISU site, that is really great news, says he thinks she can be top 5 maybe, that'd move ISU up in the standings for sure! Can't wait for the meet!

Took this quote from gosycamores.com when John Gartland was asked about Erica Moore:
“We also have a ringer,” Gartland said. “I asked Erica Moore, one of the greatest athletes in the history of Indiana State, men or women, to compete this weekend because of her fitness and competitiveness. You can see a change in the attitude of the team with her practicing with them. She also has a chance at a top five finish.”
My question is this: If that is the case then why the heck has she not been running either A. Her entire career and or B. Why has she not been running the entire season? Those questions remain unanswered to me. I mean I was a 400 hurdler and middle distance runner and I trained with the Cross Country team for 4 years - Erica runs that same combo of races and hell she's a better athlete than I ever was.
I struggle with just throwing a girl into the fire that has not trained with the team at any point in the season. That's just my thought - I mean she is obviously "more accomplished" than any other runner on the roster and her "talent" speaks for it's self - I don't question that she can't compete at a high level.
And finally if she does run well, does he run her at Regionals? Even though the team wont have a shot at making the national meet, does it make sense to run her at Regionals?
As I stated above Coach Gartland is the coach and I support him in whatever decision he makes, I has coached me for 4 years and I wouldn't ever doubt him as a coach or person
I wish both teams the best - I wish I could be in attendance! I will be at Regionals for sure...

Hopefully Scott Keeney is healthy - if he is and runs well and illinois State struggles then we will win the meet. But some things have to happen for us to bring home the hardware it's that simple. Southerns #1 and #2 runners are better than our guys right now - but we will see!

SIU's 1 and 2 will prob. be ahead of everyone, but ISU's 5 needs to be ahead of SIU's 3 or 4, Ill. State only has the top 2 kids, their 3-4-5 guys are well behind ISU and SIU's. It's essentially gonna be a dual meet between ISU and SIU.
I REALLY hope the women place top 4 with Erica Moore running!

I would have posted them but I was at the High School State Cross Country meet in Terre Haute today! I wanted to call you and let you know they had won but I didn't have your cell - big win for the program today! They needed that!
