TERRE HAUTE, IND. – The Indiana State men’s cross country team, who edged Southern Illinois for the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference championship last October, received their championship rings Wednesday night during a ceremony at halftime of the Indiana State-Illinois State men’s basketball game.

The rings were designed exclusively for the ISU cross country team. They are silver with a royal blue stone and the logo encrusted in the stone. On one side is the ISU logo with the final score of the meet. The other side has a cross country logo with the athletes name and place of finish. The team had a saying place on the inside which reads “Run as a Team, Win as a Team”.

Why silver?? Was gold too expensive?! -- NO Team should have silver Championship ring; minimum -- 10k gold

Congrats to the Men's CC Team!

If they did, that may explain the silver but still -- Pop for the 10k!!

These kids are Champions!

(Sadly, there is an NCAA regulation (somewhere) that restricts the amount the university may spend on rings for the players but NOT for coaches, administrators, etc...!)

I don't think the guys paid a penny for those rings... But congrats to those guys, really classy team. Thanks for posting this 4Q - I never doubted your respect for this teams during any discussion.

The kids SHOULDN'T have top pop for them; ought to be a set amount provided by the Conference and the school should be able to go over that amount...though I do understand the NCAA wanting to keep it in check; lest the uks of the world spend more on one ring than the federal budget! (texas, nd and all other SEC schools except Vandy would be 'blinged' to the hilt)

Gold for champions! Not silver (or bronze or sladium or therrilium or another composite from Herff Jones or Artcarved, etc, etc)
