Will remain Cross Country coach and on the track and field staff. Long time assistant and Indiana State hall-a-famer Angie Martin will take over for Gartland as the head women's track & field coach next season.
Gartland has been the heads women's track and cross country coach for many years now and has enjoyed many great years at Indiana State. He is my former coach at Indiana State and now a good friend of mine and I think this move must have been done as more of a favor to the program and university.
In the sense that, both Jeff and Angie Martin (assistant track coaches) are very favorable candidates for head coaching jobs nation wide. Giving his position up to Martin assures a future for the Martin's in Terre Haute for at least the near future. For Jeff Martin is a P.E teacher at Terre Haute South High School as well.
I view this as a positive change for Indiana State and congratulate another friend of mine and my families Angie Martin and her family on her new position. I am sure you will hear more to come on this in the coming days/weeks.
