That had to be at his expense, right?

Correct. The Barnstormers were over in Chicago for a tournament, so I'd imagine he swung over.

That's a good sign. The video reminded me of Odum, with a better J.

CEDAR FALLS - The race to land Cedar Falls' James Harrington is picking up speed.

Harrington, the Tigers' multi-sport star, has received a basketball scholarship offer from Indiana State, according to his father.

Todd Harrington, a former football player at Northern Iowa, said new Sycamore head coach Greg Lansing made the offer during a recent unofficial visit to ISU. Before coming to Indiana State, Lansing spent part of his career as an assistant coach at Iowa.

It is the first scholarship offer for James Harrington. Schools such as UNI, Nevada, Colorado, Northern Colorado have expressed interest in him as a basketball player.
Track and field is another possibility. The younger Harrington has made an unofficial visit to Wisconsin.

Todd Harrington said James could make a decision on his future sometime during his junior year at Cedar Falls, which is 2010-2011.

"His first love is basketball," said James Harrington's father. "I'd say he doesn't seem to be in a hurry. As a dad and a parent, I'll certainly try to counsel him to hopefully take his time and look at all the options before you jump into a quick decision."

On the basketball court, James Harrington has been a varsity player for the Tigers since his freshman year. He helped Cedar Falls reach the state tournament in 2009. Last winter, the Tiger point guard averaged 18.7 points a game, made the Iowa Newspaper Association all-state squad in Class 4A and guided Cedar Falls to a substate final.

as noted above, this kid is a pretty good sprinter too, he was the Iowa state champ in the 200 meter run (class 4A, largest class in Iowa) this Spring. Pretty fast time. He false-started in the 100 meter finals, otherwise would have placed there too. He'd be a great recruit for 2012. Hope we're a finalist for the kid.

Took an unofficial visit to Michigan State this past weekend. I'm not sure what sport he was visiting for as he is a standout football, basketball and track athlete.

Very good athlete:

Locally, Cedar Falls receiver James Harrington earned a Class 4A second-team nod. Harrington, a junior, reeled in 31 receptions for 742 yards this season.

"For football, it's been Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and some other Big Ten schools," Harrington said. "Most of the interest has been at receiver."

"For basketball, I have the offer from Indiana State and then I'm hearing from Nevada, Colorado, Cal-Poly, Iowa, and some of the Missouri Valley schools," said Harrington.
From a recent Rivals article. I'm wondering if Lansing and Miles would be kind enough to share James if he'd come to State. I know it is rare that kids play both hoops and football, but it could be done.

Could they split rides--each give a half and Harrington gets a whole?

All basketball schollies (D1) are full rides. 13 schollies to 13 players.

Don't think the scholarship would be the issue... it would be if Lansing would want allow him to play or not. Kid is a top flight athlete and excels in both sports -- it would be awesome to have a dual-sport star at State.

At the NCAA Division 1 level; MBB and Football scholies must be full rides; other scholies may be split...

Clarification on football... FBS cannot split but FCS in Division 1 can split them.

Hopefully he goes the Kelyn Block route!! lol.

If memory serves me, Kelyn was an All-State defensive back in high school and had a full ride to Missouri (among others) I do believe. Anyone who saw him against Oklahoma in the NCAA tourny back in 2001 would certainly agree that he had a football players toughness.:)

I think Harrington is the kind of kid that Lansing loves. Supreme athlete with toughness. Personally, I think he would be a star here.

Have to agree...is there any player in the Valley who could guard him end to end? I know With every team in the valley going to the "guards arm race" style of recruiting that with guys like Moore at Ilsu coming up in the valley that we could use every weapon in the back-court we can get...

Kid now has 4 football offers as well. From Kansas State, UNI (dad is a former player there), South and North Dakota. Also has a ton of track coaches beating down his door.

Maybe i am out of my mind, but isnt this the type of Mid-Major kid that can make it to the NBA? With that type of elite athleticism I am surprised no other BCS program is beating down his door
