Popped up on Rivals today showing an Indiana State offer. Also shows offers to Kent State and Milwaukee. Looks like he was originally a Class of 2010 player out of Tallahassee, Florida. Played at Godby HS. Web sites I've read have him listed anywhere between 6-3 and 6-6 with Rivals coming in at 6-6.

NICK WIGGINS
Wiggins, who will be classified as a freshman for the 2010-11 VU campaign, was one of the Sunshine State’s top prep players in 2008-09. He grew up in Toronto and moved to Florida during high school. He is the son of former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins and two-time Olympic silver medalist Marita Payne-Wiggins.

“He’s long and athletic and shoots the ball very well,” VU Assistant Coach Brian Davis said of the 185-pounder, who chose the Trailblazers over a group of programs including the College of Southern Idaho and Odessa College. “He has huge ‘up-side’ and will be highly recruited (by NCAA Div. I programs) after he finishes up at VU. He’s also a great character kid, from outstanding family.”

Nick Wiggins – 6’4 Sr. Wing – Godby: Wiggins was a big time surprise at the camp. Although he is a fifth year senior, he has mid-major prospect written all over him. He is long and athletic and attacks the basket with authority. He showed the ability to knock down a few threes, but his bread and butter was slashing to the paint.

ESPN eval from 2008:

Wiggins is a long and lean athlete that can score by getting to the rim, shooting his mid-range pull up or knocking the three off the catch. He likes to shoot the pull-up going to his left and most of his three's come from the corners when he reads penetration and slides to the open area. Wiggins plays with an aggressive confidence especially on the offensive end of the floor. He is a decent rebounder and capable of defending the 2 or 3 positions.

He is a solid 6'5 and probably 6'6 and has a pretty slim build. He is very long and seems to be very athletic. Saw him make some nice drives to the basket and has a nice shot from the perimeter. I think he would be a good pickup at small forward for us, seeing that he looks to have good potential.

When I saw the name Wiggins I wondered if it could be Mitchell Wiggin's son...very cool. Almost positive he played for the Bulls at some point... I remember watching him play. Sounds like the son is a good prospect.

I would like to see this type of kid get recruited more and more at state...if we can become more and more athletic we will have something the rest of the valley regularly lacks...

Anyone know how his visit went? Sounds like he could be a scorer/slasher for us.......something we are sorely lacking!

This is interesting. We are out of schollies if everyone with eligibility comes back. The coaches must know everyone isn't..................

Well you just never know do you? When my job depends on wins & losses I will clean house every year and move the dead wood out too. No free rides if you really can't ball. There is talk about changing the rule but for now it is year to year and everyone knows that.

Not so fast... he attends Wabash Valley JC with Mike Samuels and they were both visiting yesterday together. We signed a center, which is a need with Myles graduating.

You didn't grasp my point. With us giving Sanders scholarship No. 13 (out of 13), we are out for next year if everyone who can come back actually comes back.

By still entertaining recruits, the coaches must know that someone (Burnett, Dulony?) may not be returning. I heard that KSmith made grades, so it seems to be one of those two if there are going to be any openings.

We could be going after Wiggins to fill Dulony's spot in the 2013 class, I suppose, if he returns. That would be our only opening that year.

I'm all for cleaning house of dead weight.

Nick Wiggins (6'6", G, soph., Tallahassee, Fla.):Wiggins is a transfer from fellow JUCO power Vincennes. At Wabash Valley he has developed into a potential major recruit, averaging 17.3 ppg. The big wing has offers from Wichita State and Oregon State, but will probably end up with someone bigger, as Oregon, Baylor, Kansas State, Penn State and Florida State are all interested as well. Wiggins is the son of former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins, and the brother of the No. 1 prospect of the 2014 high school class, Andrew Wiggins.

Wichita probably has the best recruiting class for a valley team in a number of years. Couple juco all americans and a espn top 100 guy to go along with other solid players. They wont be as good as they were last year but yikes in two years they will be very tough.

van vleet. the PG from Illinois

Sorry, that was an attempt at sarcasm. Mr. Vanvleet has been controversial on here so I was stirring the pot. WSU has a good class coming in will be interesting to see if Hawkins and Early qualify. If they do the show might be able to stay out of the basement next year.

Since this thread took decidedly WSU recruiting class turn, I'll tell you what I know and try to be objective.

Cleanthony Early - 6'8" SF JuCo AA and PoY. 40% from 3 as a JuCo Fr, 35% as a So. I've seen videos of him dribbling to lead a fast break and using a crossover at full speed around the FT line to get an easier shot. No eligibility issues known.

Fred VanVleet - 5'11" PG - top 100 by espn, scout, and cbs. #138 and "most underrated" on Rivals.

Deontae Hawkins - 6'7" SF. Thought to be an immediate contributor, but unlikely to qualify.

DeRail Green - 6'7" SF out of Houston. 40%+ from 3. Considered a RS candidate to bulk up a bit.

Henry Uwadiae - 6'11" Nigerian post - Definite RS candidate if he gets past the NCAA clearinghouse, which is an issue. He's been in something like 5 prep schools in the last 2 years.

Nick Wiggins - 6'6" Jr - JuCo AA - SG/SF - WSU signed him over Baylor and Oregon State. Can score from 3. Known to be a slasher.

There are some interesting players coming off of either redshirts or transfers:

Malcolm Armstead - Sr - 6'1" PG who started a lot of games for Oregon and has the Oregon single-season steals record.

Ron Baker - Fr - Unheralded 6'3" SG who was the best shooter in practices last year. In practice, he was better at putting the ball in the hoop than Ragland, Kyles, Smith, or Murry. He's athletic and has decent handles, but he played for a small HS in western KS and didn't play AAU ball, so he's "unheralded". Probably one of the early subs at SG.

Joe Mitchell - 6'1" SG - JuCo AA. Not expected to see much court time.

Starters could be:

C - Hall/Orukpe
PF - White/Hall
SF - Early
SG - Williams
PG - Armstead - VanVleet may get some starts later in the season.

I don't know whether next year is a "rebuild" or "reload" year for WSU. Of the potential starters, 5 have 1 to 3 years of D1 experience. Probably 3 of the first 4 subs have no D1 experience.

I see a lot of potential for the Shox next year, but the Shox have to rely on a number of unproven players. If those players come through like Moore, Sawvell, Daniels, Tuttle, and many other MVC Fr last year, then the Shox are reloading and could challenge for top 3. I'm really expecting a 5 or 6 finish next year, but look out in 2013-14.
