Is he good enough to play for Indiana State? I didn't think he was athletic enough as RJ to play here, but maybe I am wrong, and I am not the coach, so don't go by my words.

Lane is far more athletic than RJ. I don't even think its close. RJ was/is more skilled offensively. Lane MUST find the Rockville weightroom. I don't think he does growing height wise. He is someone to keep an eye on. Of course Sycamore Fan would know better!

This is the general consensus I've been told as well. I keep being told he has a higher ceiling -- although I hate that use of that phrase. I think the knock on RJ was he needed to get bigger also and that people felt he wouldn't be quick enough to guard MVC talent. I also think RJ has done a great job shooting that down as he has played pretty good defense and will only continue to get better with more time in Lansing's system.

He has huge feet which also says he is going to grow more in height.

At the 2009 Pizza Hut Classic, RJ Senior Season, True Blue and I were hanging around after the last game one evening and were talking to Lane. At the time he was in 8th grade and was about 6'1". He said that he and RJ routinely saw the doctor to check on thier growth. He told us that the doctor saw lots of growth left for him looking at the growth plates in his bones. According to Lane, the doctor told him he should end up being close to 7' tall.
If you compare him to his brother, he is currently about 3 inches taller than his brother was at this point in high school. RJ went from around 6'3" his sophomore season to 6'8" by graduation. Lane currently stands 6'6" and looks to be filling out as he grows. We should really be in on him strong, i would think. He is pretty athletic and is a smart player....just like his brother....and you all know you CAN'T TEACH 7'0"!!!

Sign him up lol.. Seriously though if he cracks 6'8 or 6'9 we have to offer him one would think. He has a good feel for the game and family ties to the program.

The Sycamore coaches have been very attentive to Lane. Whether that be due to serious interest or respect shown to his brother, they have been very organized in their efforts. Coaches attended the last two games in person and have been more than kind to him all year.
Honestly, I don't think he has a plan yet. I expect he will get bigger and better, but he had a great year regardless.
Right now he is drawing interest from the Sycamores and Evansville, Bucknell, Miami of Ohio, and a few others from D1. The small schools are working hard with Marian University and Indiana Weslyan around a lot. The next couple weeks will be big, and then the aau season comes. Hopefully he'll get to go to the Top 100 Workout; that was when things got crazy for RJ.
He and his brother are very close, so I expect big bro's advice will go a long way. Time will tell.

Sounds like he should play for us and Lansing. Wasn't it Carl that said Lansing is the "best coach in the world"?

A true 3? Lane is probably going to project more as a 4 or 5! He will get taller....at least a few inches...and he is nowhere near the shooter RJ is. Lane's future is in the post, in my opinion.

Have heard that Lane's game is really coming around. Now standing roughly 6'7" he's becoming more and more of a post threat. Also heard he scored 40 points in a summer high school game early this year. His 10th grade AAU team, Spiece Central played in the AAU National Championships....but am unsure how well they did. That Speice Central team was very good, not flashy, but very good. They played some of the best teams in the country this summer, beating several and losing close games to others. I think they really made some noise and Lane was typically the lead scorer, but also gained valuable experience playing some of the best 10th graders in the country.

What position is he playing this year? Does he still project to a SF at the next level?

Suffered a fractured or dislocated kneecap last weekend, is out for several weeks. Got pushed all over the court in the Pizza Hut Classic as team went 1-2. Needs to be much stronger to play at this level. Wouldn't be impossible, but strength a big problem.

My wife had a dislocated kneecap last summer. Very painful then and she still has trouble with it.

Think he had 20 in the game, most of
It came in the first 3 quarters I believe.
First time Rockville will play for a State Championship in 95 years! Not quite the Colts, but pretty close!
Good luck to Lane, his dad and the team!

Website Analysis of Lane M.
Lane Mahurin: 6’7” Power Forward, Rockville H.S. Offers: Indiana State
Interest:
Nice length, a versatile set of offensive skills. Lane needs to get a little stronger, but overall he has the tools to be a very good player. Rebounds the ball well, disrupts lots of shots defensively, just all-around good basketball player. Good upside.
