Hearing we have offered this kid. He is now a full qualifier and prior to going off to a prep school for a year, he had a lot of big time verbal offers. Since most of those programs are now full for 2011, he is likely going to head to a mid major program. Right now, Fairfield, Northern Illinois, Indiana State and several others are on him.

A 6'6" shooting guard? I like it. I like it a lot!!!

Assuming he can shoot it, this would be an excellent pick-up late in the 2011 class! (:

6'6 class of 2011 wing Dre Henley was sensational in defeat for De LaSalle, finishing with 24 points and doing everything within his power to keep his team in the game despite missing a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have forced overtime. Henley scored at will on baseline drives, finger rolls in the lane and pullup jumpers, including a couple from beyond the 3-point arc. As we have previously mentioned, we consider Fairfield to be the current leader for Henley's services, as coach Simon has practically been living with Henley over the course of the last month.

Lansing was driving up to Chicago yesterday for a recruiting trip to see a game...he mentions it in the phone interview below. Possibly there to see Dre play?

Good find. Interview is from the 8th, so that would have put him up there Tuesday night. I'm going to guess he was at the York Sectional and Henley was playing in that one.

Great stuff with the conversation between Lansing and the announcers.

Yes, we have one open scholarship. We never filled the one opened by Brant when he left. We lost Marshall, Reed and Crawford last year.

YES PLEASE? This kid would be a good rotational player...good true replacement for AC...You can never have too many good three point shooters!

Enough of Shaw bashing and let’s talk about the bright spot of the game. By far the best player for De La Salle and most prolific scorer on the court that night was Sr. SF Andre “Dre” Henley (6-6, 210 lbs, go to previous blogs for more Dre info). Dre finished with a game high 25 points and was the only reason why the 59-56 loss to Whitney Young was as close as it was. Henley did everything- shoot, pass, drive, rebound, and defend. If you were to ask me who was the four star recruit going to Illinois and will probably start his freshman year, I would say without hesitation Andre Henley, NOT Mike Shaw. For the whole season I have heard that he is the best player on De La Salle, and Tuesday night was no exception. Henley has a skill that can’t be taught and something coaches covet and that is a natural scoring ability. Henley was one of, if not the most aggressive player going towards the hoop and all of the scoring went through Henley towards the end of the game. He was the go-to guy that night and the most threatening scorer of any team. I would say his future is definitely bright for Henley, but there is great uncertainty in his recruiting despite Henley getting better day by day. It will be very interesting to see where Dre will be a year from now.

I think that we almost need this kid for next year even...I see us building a bit of a MOVAL dynasty here. We need length. We were notably small all around the court minus our PG...

Not sure about the dynasty thing, but Henley does sound like a fit and what we need -- a natural scorer. Sometimes we get into funks where we can't score and it would be nice to have a guy that can just find a way to score. I do agree with needing more length.

yep if one thing stood out to me this year as a flaw is that in our big games against PU and Syracuse and even against the better valley teams we struggled to score the ball. We need more scorers on this team without a doubt. If Dre can provide that then thats great. Although I think K. Smith will help solve a lot of those problems. Do we really want two guys in the same class that do the same thing? Is Dre more of a slasher or shooter because Smith is a slasher, would be nice if we could get a good shooter on the team to replace Printy when he leaves.

I think Khristian Smith will be more of a 3, while Dre Henley seems to be more of a 2-guard who could play the 3 if needed. Judging from what I've read, I see no downside, really, of having him and Khristian Smith on the floor at the same time. As long as their defense is adequate, they could definitely compliment one another well. I think we can all agree that we need more dynamic scoring options.

I would LOVE to have a 6'6" shooting guard...that sounds great as our first SG off the bench for Printy next season.

PG - Odum/McWhorter/Brown
SG - Printy/Henley/Brown
SF - Lathan/Smith
PF - Richard/RJ/Gant
C - Walker/Kitchell/Gant

Still not sure right now where the Eitels fit at this time, but that's a good problem to have.

Named Chicago Catholic League All-Conference

Also, should make note that one of Henley's offers was by Fairfield. Well their coach was just hired at Providence, so it will be interesting to see if the coach offers him to play in the Big East.

Should have K. Smith talk to him about that. He bit on that piece of bait once, and then realized that ISU was a better fit for him...

Someone online claiming to be close to the family had mentioned last week to pay attention, that an announcement would be coming soon. Guess he wasn't lying.

Would have loved to have had this kid in Royal Blue, but still happy with what we have.
