As successful as Indiana State Track and Cross programs have been in recent memory, one thing they haven't been able to do is win the MVC indoor title. I was a part of a few runner-up teams myself.

Today the Sycamores got the job done and coach John McNichols is going to be named the MVC Coach of the Year - he already won Cross Country Coach of the Year this season. Fantastic weekend to be a Sycamore! We rolling right now boys!

AWESOME news SSOM! thanks! And to think of the things that went wrong for ISU this meet and they STILL won!

Can't wait for the outdoor meet now, can you say "3 peat", or win the trifecta! (CC, indoors, outdoors).

and you're right, this team is YOUNG, the next several years are gonna be incredible!

Has the 3 peat ever happened? We thought we had the teams to do it when I was at State, we came close but didn't get it done...

I don't think the 3 peat has ever happened. ISU came close in 2005-2006, if my memory serves correctly. (xc and outdoor)

all I gotta say is things are looking up for ALL ISU sports, every year ISU is winning more and more MVC championships!

Rafter that is correct that was the team I was on and we just missed indoor - we were 2nd to UNI by a small margin - a few points if I recall correctly. That was a long bus ride home.

NOTE: A 3 peat has NEVER happened in the MVC, this will be the first time it's ever been even a possibility I believe.

Wow! The Sycamores were up by .5 going into the last event the 4 by 4 - SIU was 2nd, Sycamore were not supposed to win the 4 by 4 running 3 freshman and they pulled it off. Southern finished 3rd in the 4 by 4 and the Sycamores win by 4.5 points.

Yeah how bout it fellas - let emm know your reading this thread! Some of the guys do read this site and they would be glad to read what some of you had to say. This is quite an accomplishment for an historically great program at Indiana State.

When has a 1 event guy ever won the MVC athlete of the meet? That's a true sign of respect for how good Major Clay has been this year in the high jump - he's been extraordinary!

Congrats to our Indoor T & F teams. Another great accomplishment for Sycamore Sports. Funny, when I left home earlier in the day I read something that said we might fall to 4th place. Then I get home and find out we WON. Now THATS a turnaround. Proud of our Track and Field teams~

Absolutely! A win outdoor will mark the first time a school has EVER won Cross Country MVC, Indoor Track MVC and Outdoor Track MVC Conference titles - John McNicholes will go down as the greatest track/cross country coach to ever coach in the MVC for his coaching and his vision with the design and planning for the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country course.

How is he not going to go down as the greatest already? I have a hard time believing someone has done it better, for longer than he has...

Well he is, but I think you have to qualify it with the word "go down" since he is still coaching... lol He is indeed already the best! haha Although I am as bias as they come, don't know if bias even factors into this one?

Maybe Coach Wayton or Martin can help us with this discussion - I turn to them guys for the good hard facts, I am not a history guy - Coach Wayton is!

Admittedly I know very little about the history of the sports, but I would think John McNichols would be one of greats on a national basis.

Coach McNichols' leadership in the sport has been mind-boggling. I've been on staff since the fall of 2005 yet I still learn things every day. He has been very successful in an environment that has not historically been conducive to success.

With that said, Lew Hartzog of SIU is the most successful coach in ANY sport in MVC history:

http://www.ustfccca.org/ustfccca-hall-of-fame/ustfccca-hall-of-fame-class-of-2007/lew-hartzog-ustfccca-class-of-2007

Nobody will duplicate his success. He recruited heavily out of New Jersey when NJ produced tough kids (before 2000)

I think a Congrats is good enough! Coaches and athletes alike read this forum on a daily basis, not only track/xc athletes but players of many sports at Indiana State I think any positive uplifting comments are great to read. Just to know that people are appreciative of the performance is great to hear!

Is Brandon Pounds injured?

Yeah he is backer - he had a serious hand injury that forced him to have surgery and miss the indoor season. Looks as if he will be back for outdoor making the Sycamores that much more dangerous!

I'm almost 90% sure Pounds is redshirting outdoor season also...he told me.
