Need our guards to handle the ball better and got to hit more shots from the outside than we did in Normal. If we can do that, and get the same effort from our front court we can win this game.

Their Freshman big man is fun to watch (will be frustrating as hell tomorrow), the kid plays angles very well.

It's more than 24 hours until our third MVC game of the season and I have to wonder...

Will this end up being a game that we shoulda won...or actually won?
Will JB and BS cut down their turnover numbers?
Will Hughes get his third start in a row?
Will the Walk-Ons continue to get valid minutes on the court?
Can we please see a break-out performance by Devin Thomas?
How about a 30-point performance by anyone?
Can our bigs please continue to show some improvement in the paint...scoring and rebounding?
Will the game-time temperature reach double-digits?
Will the game-time wind chill reach above-zero digits?
What are the keys to playing Loyola this year?
In the post-Doyle era, who are the players to watch?
Can we sweep Loyola this year?
March on, you fighting Sycamores, Sycamores

Very good analysis of the Sycamores for this game on the Loyola message board.

Scott and Barnes need to realize there are other players on this team

They are our #1 and #2 scoring options. I'd say they're doing fine overall. What they do need to do is cut down on the bad passes when they are trying to get others involved. Barnes has been very sloppy with the ball and his turnovers have shot up over the last 3 games and his A/TO ratio is pretty poor now.

Here are my issues with the team going forward:

    1. Value the basketball.
    2. Commit to playing 40 minutes of inspired defense like you did against Valpo and the first half against the Redbirds.
    3. Finish through fucking contact.
    4. Make your free throws.

Do that and we're going to win more than we're going to lose. The problem is we have some shooters but we don't have someone like Yarbrough who can go 1-on-1 and get you buckets so we've got a very fine line to walk offensively. If our shots aren't falling, we're usually in big trouble.

to add a 5th issue, don't shoot for 2 when you're down 3 with under 10 seconds left in the game.

Jordan Barnes and BScott haven't been the problem. Well kinda - they've turned the ball over way too much (see Jason's #1) and haven't done that good of a job facilitating the rock all around so they could be better. But I don't think they've played selfishly - they are our best players make no mistake.

In fact, if Barnes and Scott have fall off this team doesn't stand much of a chance to win. The guys behind them are wildly inconsistent and none of them have shown the ability to carry us to a victory.

So many plays prior to that cost us the win Scott. I mean give-it-a-rest dude.

Yes he should have known we needed a 3 in that situation - without a doubt a bone headed play. But if any of you have watched Scott in his career he doesn't necessarily have a ton of poise to him in crunch time. In fact, in the overtime games that we have had this year he's often given us next to nothing - he's just not that good in high pressure situations. So his mental mistake with 10 seconds left shouldn't be a huge surprise to anyone.

But if you want to talk about missed layups, missed free throws, turnovers all before 10 seconds left in the game that also cost us a chance at victory that is fine. But to talk about that one mental mistake and act like that cost us the game - give me a break.
