Even though she was undoubtedly the focus of the event, Curtis turned the attention away from her toward the university's impact -- and the partnerships that facilitate it.

Wife and I went to the Inauguration Gala dinner last night. All proceeds went to the Mike Phillips Student Emergency Fund. As gala dinners go they did a good job. The highlight of the night was when they announced the dollar amount raised by the gala. The last two years they only distributed 3-4K in emergency student assistance. Last night they raised $41,000. There’s ISU alumni/friends money out there folks!

Deb Curtis strikes me as a Type A (the good qualities) that will genuinely enjoy spending time off-campus promoting ISU and developing relationships statewide and nationwide—which I like. We have enough (too many) VPs, Associate VPs, Assistant to the VP, etc. that can mind the store while she’s out working the big donors, CEO’s, and politicians.

They’re also throwing around a new slogan. “Indiana State University is the State of Indiana’s University.” I like that too.

Of course, she’s still in the honeymoon period. Let’s see where we are in 2-3 years.

Great. That slogan doesn’t exactly flow off the tongue though. I’ve heard nothing but good about her so far.

Yeah. I don't know if they're actually gonna use it publicly for marketing or if it's just a cliche for speeches but I like it.

I concur with most of what you've said.

I was on campus for Tanner's Presidents Scholarship luncheon last weekend and was impressed with Curtis. She has a "down to Earth" quality when she talks that I don't think we've had since Moore. I think Bradley had the quality but it didn't come across in his speaking because I didn't think he was a very good public speaker to be honest. On the other hand, she seems to have that.

Tanner did a nice job Jason - not surprised at all. Had the opportunity to meet him with you at a tailgate I believe prior to his Freshman year and then had a couple different interactions with him with some professional commitments I've had with the Scott College of Business - he's got a bright future!
