Personally I am very concerned about our size. Next year I think we will have 6 or 7 guards. We will only have 1 center next year. Our you guys concerned with the height of the squad for the years to come?

It seems to be the way the game is trending. Plus, we always struggle to get quality bigs. I would rather have six quality tweeners than two or three posts that are stiffs just to fill out a roster.

    Rickman 6'9" nice experience
Hunerman 6'11" little experience... hopefully hitting weights hard...
    Thomas 6'8" nice experience
    Kessinger 6'8" nice experience
Brinkmeyer 6'9" frosh but can jump
    Hughes 6'5"
    Williams 6'5"
    Host of guards 6'2"-6'4"

On paper it does not look that bad. But yea 3 are 6'8" or taller with experience is all...

Four out and one in is running college hoops right now.

I think we're fine. Not worried about height at all. Just curious to see how the 3 bigs improve next year.

The Villanova-style 4-out-1-in offense is pretty much the norm now, and that includes the NBA. It's all about ball movement, dribble penetration, high screens, etc. The traditional Bob Knight motion offense is dead and has been for a long time.

For us, I'm not so much concerned about our size, but Rickman is going to be very, very important this year. This more fast-paced perimeter offense to work it does require rim protection and a quick big man that can handle the pick and roll. That's where Rickman will be key. Rebounding also won't be an issue either since big men are only really important for offensive rebounds and put-backs. Since the game revolves around jump shots now most guards and wings are just as responsible for rebounds now since most are coming long off the rim.

I'm rambling, but I guess my point is I don't think our size is an issue. Krutwig will eat us alive, but the other Valley teams are going to look a lot like us.

Iím less concerned about size and more concerned about the overall talent of this roster. On paper I donít think weíre going to be much - but as with the Pacers this past season whatís on paper doesnít always mean too much. If they can play together and defend anything is possible but I just donít see it. Iíd say if we avoid Thursday we will have done something.

Look at the names posted above in this thread and the only one that gave us anything last year was Hughes and he was inconsistent at that (he had an excuse being a Freshman). Those other guys - especially Rickman and Kessinger I canít help them.

I agree, but Hunerman will not play very much this year.

At most he'd be 4th string at the 5 spot in a true 4-1 setup so why would that even matter?

Agreed. Treding now is a lineup that looks like:

    G
    G
    F
    F
    F/C

as opposed to the traditional nomenclature:

    PG
    SG
    SF
    PF
    C

High School Programs and AAU aren't producing many quality Big Man Prospects, so you it has required most schools to embrace a 4/1 ratio.
