I don't really go watch many Valley road games or even bother going to STL the last couple seasons since my expectation is that we will get our face kicked in on most occasions - which totally ruins the trip for me - so I don't have many opinions about Valley fan bases. This seems kinda like gossip back in the day - "hey who's your least favorite friend?"... That said:

    1. Evansville - likely because I've seen more road games at Evansville than any other Valley team. Let me start with saying outside of Turonis Evansville has the worst selection of restaurants known to man - outside of the casino the overall Evansville experience leaves a lot to be desired. A few years back I had some Evansville fans barking at me and my friends - we had several beverages before hand but we were yelling at the officials and what not. We were not yelling at these fans - they had security come talk to us until the Evansville fans behind us told security we were not doing anything wrong... The real reason Evansville fans are the worst is Evansville is historically one of the worst programs in the Valley over the last 20 years and for some reason they have a fan base that is absolutely oblivious to this fact - always thinking they have a better program than they really have.

    2. Southern IL - I thought the way that fan base treated Barry Hinson over the last 2 years was disgusting. Some of the things people tweeted about him after this season was beyond embarrassing. After that display I will never have any respect for Southern IL and I wish them nothing but the worst moving forward.

    3. Indiana State - The majority of our "fans" take little ownership over Indiana State. Of course this doesn't apply to 75% of the people on this forum who donate, support, buy tickets, etc. etc. But it does apply to the large majority of our alums who really are just fair weather fans coming out of the woodwork when things are going well but cheering on IU, PU, ND and ______________ whoever else when the Sycamores are doing what they usually do - struggle.

If we could all get $10.00 for every time, every one of us sees someone we know close or casually; wearing another schools gear, we could fund the AD with THOUSANDS of DOLLARS!!!

Full disclaimer before I start my list. Overall I pretty well like all of the fan bases that are currently in the MVC. Just choosing the ones with the most bad apples and obnoxious fans. Before Wichita State left they were easily #1. They had classless fans, a classless coach, and a classless athletic dept. The only person/player from Wichita I ever had any respect for was Ron Baker.

    1) Illinois State- I've had several run-ins with their fans. I'm not sure why they have so many bad apples.

    2) North Dakota State (MVFC)- Never had an issue with any of their fans in person. However they have a lot of annoying message board posters that take to other boards to justify NDSU to the rest of the world and it just gets annoying after a while.

    3) Private schools in the MVC (tie)- I get sick of hearing from private schools' fans about how if the publics in the MVC dropped football and just spent it all on basketball, we'd be the midwestern version of the Big East. I also get sick of hearing fans from public schools that want their school to think and act like a private school.

If you are going to talk Wichita as a past member then you have to add the Douches at Creighton. I mean these are the largest group of Douches I ever met. They booed Larry Bird for Christ Sake .

Not a topic that I get into. Not really enjoyable to post bashes of other teams and their fan bases. Each one has classless members, but each one has a majority of good people. You just only remember the classless ones.

As someone mentioned above, when you meet them in person it is usually a different perspective. WSU fans were awful online, but most (if not all) of the ones that I ran into in StL were fine.

I would agree with SSOM that SIU fans were completely out of control with respect to the last two years of Hinson. One would hope that even they would go back and look at their old posts and say "man I think I went to far with that one" but probably not. It is for that reason that I would not mind seeing SIU in the bottom of the conference for at least a few more years.

The fan base that bothers me the most (by far) is ours. Will spend two hours complaining about the team, program, school but can't be bothered to come out and support them in any way. Used to get so tired of "fans" who would say if the games were more like (insert school name) and the crowds were bigger I would attend", not seeming to realize that if everyone who shared this attitude showed up it would be exactly what they asked for.

I just hope that if this season doesn't go the way we hope it does, that this board doesn't melt down to any level close to what SIU did over the last few years. That would be a shame and an embarrassment.

I realize they aren't in the Valley or probably even in the sport you started the thread for but their football success in the OVC has blinded them to the level of football they play. Their 2 greatest teams since they moved up from D2 couldnt make the semis and you would think they were on par with NDSU. Since they joined the OVC they have made the playoffs about 12 times and their only win was against another OVC team. 10 of the losses were to MVFC teams.

2nd place: every other team in the Valley. The fans at UNI were assholes in '97. if you stand up, hold your hand straight up, take 3 steps back, where your hand is, is where the first row of fans were. so anytime someone asks what about the opposing team and our visitors side "seating" area my answer is "eat a dick" every other stadium has fans right behind the team.

From a basketball perspective, it's hard for me to rank them like this. I've been to the tournament in St. Louis the last 10 years in a row, and I'm always surprised with how cordial and respectful opposing fans can be. Most are polite and willing to have reasonable conversations, and most will cheer their team vehemently as far as they go in a respectful way. I can think of a few bad apples from all schools, including ours, but I suppose if I'm asked to rank them I'd put them in this order:

    1) Illinois State. This seems to stem from an inferiority complex they had with WSU and with the University of Illinois. They seem hellbent on assuring everyone they are big time, when they are not and never have been. Unjustified arrogance is an annoying trait.

    2) Southern Illinois. They don't seem to realize we are almost 20 years since their last successful run, and they come across as cynical and entitled when things don't go their way. See Hinson, Barry.

    3) Drake. They can have the same elitist smell that Creighton had, except they've had zero success to justify it. Their coaching staff also routinely sat in my seats during Arch Madness this past year, and they were absolute dicks. Shocked that I wanted them to GTFO of my seats. I may be taking my distaste for their previous coaching staff and transferring to the fan base...but so be it.

I actually like EIU fans and EIU in general. In fact I actually go to most of their home games in football, basketball, and baseball; whenever ISU isn't playing. They are solidly my second favorite school and I even cheer for them when they play other MVC schools (besides ours of course). I basically follow ISU, EIU, MV(F)C and the OVC in that order and don't even bother following anyone else anymore.
