ESPN currently has us as a 70/30 favorite. Not sure we've ever been that big of a favorite at their place under Lansing. Furthermore, Normal was on par with Springfield as we're 1-7 against the Birds there. That lone win came in 2014-2015.

I'm going to keep up the phrase we used against MSU and against Pollard. We're due.

We usually play fairly well at their place. Part of the problem is that over the past 5 years or so they have been better than us. Despite them being better than us in the past we still usually give them all they can handle.

This game does make me nervous. We should win, but I also attended the game where UNI lost to Illinois State. They looked awful the first half of that game and then scored something like 56 points in the second half. They really haven't done much since that game though. They did give SIU a scare not that long ago, similar to what Evansville did last night.

All road games make me nervous, but Illinois State is really bad basketball team. They are 5th or worse in every single advanced metric possible, while being the worst in the following:

Offense: Turnover % (let's press the shit out of them)
Offense: 2 Point % (our one weakness on defense, and they suck at it)
Defense: Offensive Rebound Rate (should be lots of second-chance opportunities for us)
Defense: Free Throw Rate (paging Tyreke Key; Mr. Key please report to the free throw line)

They're also 8th or 9th in many other categories, so, basically, they have no identity as a team and do nothing particularly well. Mark this one down as a W...by more than 10.

If we fly around on defense like we did last night we will be fine.

Need to get off to a good start

100%. On Lansing's better teams, defense has always been a hallmark. If the guys come out with the mindset that Illinois State is getting clamped, we'll be just fine.
